Lions Club Outreach Initiatives Empower the Communities

Lions Clubs in Sabah have been actively carrying out activities which have benefitted the communities. Their collaborative efforts and synergy have made them unsung heroes. They have initiated programs which included hunger alleviation, environmental preservation, diabetes education, support for childhood cancer, and empowerment initiatives for single mothers. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor lauded the efforts and initiatives of the Lions Clubs in Sabah to empower single mothers and to help the underprivileged in the community.

One of the club’s ongoing programs is the “Women Empowerment: Empowering Single Mothers” which is an initiative for 20 single mothers under the auspices of the Sabah Single Mothers Association to assist the single mothers in find new ways to make a living. Other impactful initiatives include vision impairment care; youth empowerment; disaster reliefs; humanitarian causes; diabetes prevention; hunger alleviation; childhood cancer support;, and environmental conservation.

“Your efforts and dedication are extraordinary. This collaborative effort is a powerful testament to the transformative impact that collective action can have within communities, Hajiji said on 3 May 2024 at the opening ceremony of the 62nd Multiple District 308 (MD308) Lions Convention 2024 at Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu.

"We salute the remarkable accomplishments of Multiple District 308 : having committed 572,078 volunteer hours; accomplished 18,507 activities; and impacting 2.1 million individuals.”

Hajiji said the government recognises the invaluable roles undertaken by NGOs and volunteer organisations such as the Lions Club in complementing and bridging gaps in society.
