Sabah Hosts Passage to the East Yacht Rally

Tuaran hosted the “Sail Malaysia Passage to the East Yacht Rally 2024” programme in July 2024, with participants from 45 countries including from Australia, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, Portugal, Hong Kong, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Canada and other states in Malaysia. A rally fleet of more than 20 yachts converged in Tuaran since 17 July 2024. Sail Malaysia has been coming to Sabah since 2009 and since then, 400 yachts from all over the world have visited.

In the weeks ahead, the yachts will travel to Kudat, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Tawau. "It Since its inception in 2005, the Sail Malaysia initiative under the auspices of the Cruise Marine Tourism Association of Malaysia (Persatuan Pelancongan Perkapalan dan Marin Malaysia) has attracted over 1,400 yachts to Malaysia.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said that the key players - Sail Malaysia, Tourism Malaysia, Sabah Parks, Sabah Tourism, ESSCOM and all relevant authorities, agencies, private organisations and individuals – have been instrumental in making the event successful. Hajiji said the event has boosted the Tuaran District’s tourism and Sabah’s tourism, which has raked in economic receipts exceeding RM500 million. Cruise Marine Tourism Association of Malaysia has done a good job in promoting Malaysia’s nautical tourism and sailing adventure though its marketing push of “Discover Malaysia by Sea," the CM said on 19 July 2024 in welcoming participants of the Sail Malaysia Passage to the East Yacht Rally 2024 at the Anjung Gayang Jetty, Jalan Sulaman, Tuaran.
