Additional 700-megawatt Generation Project

Sabah is continuing efforts to stabilise power supply through Majlis Tenaga Sabah (MTS) which have approved several critical projects for producing an additional 700 Megawatts of power. MTS was established following the transfer of energy regulatory powers from the Federal Government to Sabah and to replace the Sabah Electricity Supply and Tariff Planning and Implementation Committee.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, stated on 23 August 2024, while chairing the second SEC Meeting at Menara Kinabalu, that among the main projects is the Hydroelectric Project and the Natural Gas Power Plant. The meeting also discussed the implementation of hydroelectric development; and the development of the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) plant.
