Twelve students from Sabah who achieved excellent results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2023 examinations successfully earned scholarships – together with 600 students nationwide - from national oil and gas company, Petronas to pursue their higher education.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor met with the 12 students on 23 August 2024 who delivered speeches and shared their journeys and dreams. “We are happy, and we believe that you will have a bright future," Hajiji told the recipients of the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge Education Sponsorship 2024, at Menara Kinabalu. “You are the future. Help drive the nation and state development."

Hajiji also commended PETRONAS for its continuous support for youth academic development and for sponsoring another 107 students from Sabah for higher education studies. PETRONAS' commitment is in line with the State’s Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya program to develop human capital," he said.

The CM noted that the State Government had allocated RM470 million for human capital development, which includes scholarships and study loans; one-off allowances for those enrolling in institutions of higher learning at RM2,000 for degree-level courses and RM1,500 for diploma-level courses; and one-off allowances RM200 for secondary level students (in Form Four and Form Five); and that Yayasan Sabah has set up the Sabah Education Fund to finance the education of our youths.
