Media in Sabah is Fair and Just

Respecting and protecting the freedom of the press is important for social progress and democratic development. The media is Sabah has been fair, objective and just, enabling all voices and views are heard and respected. Those were the words of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor when he spoke on 29 September 2024 at the Kinabalu Press Award 2024 at the Hilton Hotel, Kota Kinabalu.

"Journalists and the media players are responsible for upholding ethics, including gathering of information from credible sources, and providing balanced coverage,” Hajiji said. " The media in Sabah has shown dedication at the highest level in reporting truthful, verified and accurate news." The CM said that the media’s role is important in assisting to disseminate information on the state's development agenda, particularly the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plan.

The annual Kinabalu Press Award is relevant because it helps to promote and recognise journalistic excellence and encourage new talents, Hajiji added. The government will continue to endorse the event and the sponsorship from Shell, Petronas, Qhazanah Sabah Berhad and SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd is reflective of the event’s theme “Progress Through Smart Partnership, “Hajiji added.
