ASEAN Body Conferred Award to Hajiji

Ir Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang - IEM President/AFEO Chairman - presented the award to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor

The ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) has bestowed the Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor. AFEO is a non-governmental body consisting of engineering institutions and organisations within ASEAN countries. Its main objectives are to promote goodwill and mutual understanding; and to facilitate the mobility of engineers within the ASEAN countries.

Ir Prof Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin - President of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia who is AFEO Chairman - presented the award to Hajiji on 7 October 2024 at Menara Kinabalu. In the award citation, Ir. Prof. Dr David Chuah Joon Huang, AFEO Secretary-General, said that AFEO honours and recognises the CM’s visionary policies and understanding of the engineering community's role. The award, he said, is conferred to persons who have rendered substantial and outstanding services to the engineering profession, the Institution and the ASEAN community and recipients have included Deputy / Vice Presidents of a country, Deputy Prime Minister, Heads of Ministry and highly prominent persons and world-renowned figures.

"Hajiji’s impactful contributions to community development, economic progress, and effective governance highlight a leader who is committed to Sabah's welfare. His adept governance, visionary policies, and understanding of the engineering community's role make him a fitting recipient," Prof. Dr David said. The Institute of Engineering Malaysia (IEM) Sabah will host 1,500 participants at the 42nd Conference of the AFEO (CAFEO) from 22-24 October 2024 at the Sabah International Convention Centre, Kota Kinabalu.
