The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) revealed that only 217 of the 382 towers or 57 per cent under the JENDELA program has been completed in Sabah. Jalinan Digital Negara or JENDELA is the government’s digital infrastructure roadmap for digital connectivity and high quality broadband coverage for gradual transition to 5G technology.

The MCMC also informed Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor - during his working visit to the State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) at Wisma Bandaraya, Kota Kinabalu, on 2 December 2024 – that of the 217 completed telco towers, only 63 per cent is fully operational.

“This is only Phase One of the project and Phase Two of JENDELA will be rolled out soon, in 2025, but the contractor's performance is still much to be desired," Hajiji said. “The State Government would not hesitate to take action if there is no improvement in the project's performance.”
