Empowering More Women in Policymaking
Women empowerment is crucial for the benefit and well-being of women and for the overall development of society. Empowering women will lead to better economic outcomes, healthier families, and justice in communities. This was the message which Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor shared on 5 May 2025 during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed members of the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS) at Menara Kinabalu. MPWS was established as a coordinating and advisory body to the State Government and as an intermediary between the State Government and nongovernmental women’s organizations.

Hajiji said the MPWS plays a crucial role as a think tank and catalyst for the government. It is also a partner with the Sabah Department of Women's Affairs (Jabatan Hal Ehwal Wanita or JHEWA) to unify efforts towards advancing women's progress in the state. JHEWA acts as the secretariat of the MPWS. “Women must have access to opportunities, including empowerment in economy, education, and politics,” Hajiji said.

“The role and importance of women in human capital development is becoming increasingly evident. “We must nurture knowledgeable women in their endeavour to assist in all challenges.” MPWS must always be a part of the government machinery in optimizing women’s involvement in policymaking, Hajiji added. Datuk Dr Hajah Rosmahwati Lasuki is MPWS’ new chairperson.
