The MV Doulos Hope – often dubbed as the floating global library - has docked at Kota Kinabalu, one of the ship’s regular port of calls. Its previous visit was in 2023. The ship, which will be docking in Kota Kinabalu for three weeks, has an international crew of 100 volunteers from more than 30 countries, led by Director Nidhin Sebastian and Captain Graeme Bird.

“We are delighted to host you again. Each time the Doulos comes to our shores, it brings excitement. It is an event that many Sabahans eagerly anticipate,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, said at the official opening reception on 22 August 2025 on board the ship at the South Jetty of the Kota Kinabalu Port.

“We are heartened by your goal of sharing knowledge and hope, promoting literacy, cultural exchange, and community engagement.”

It is comforting that the Doulos Hope embodies these values through literacy and education. “Doulos Hope’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the positive impact we can achieve when we unite in the pursuit of knowledge and hope. The international crew is a testament to what unity in diversity can achieve in bridging cultural, racial, and belief differences.”
