Chief Minister Chairs Emergency Meeting on Power Disruption
The continuous heavy rains over the past several days impacted a 275kV electricity tower at Kolopis – Segaliud, Penampang District, which collapsed on 13 September 2025. The damage has caused immediate major power outages in many parts of the area and in the east coast. A landslide at Kampung Sarapung, Penampang, brought down the tower and swept it. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor called for an emergency meeting on 14 September 2025 at Sri Gaya, Kota Kinabalu.
Ir Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, Chief Operating Officer of Sabah Electricity (SE) said that SE team and contractors are onsite to do immediate restoration works and to reconnect the Kolopis – Segaliud power line, which he said could be completed within two days depending on weather conditions. “Our team is undertaking restoration works under precarious conditions, and while we hoped they could be completed quickly, at the same time, we are exercising caution,” Yusmanizam said.
Hajiji instructed SE to keep the public informed on work progress and to constantly monitor situation on the ground in the face of the prevailing challenging weather.
