Anwar Tabled a Progressive and Inclusive National Budget
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, tabled the National 2026 Budget on 10 October 2025. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and colleagues watched the tabling of the budget Menara Kinabalu via live telecast. Hajiji said that the budget is prudent and focusses on the interests of all Malaysians and especially the less fortunate. Sabah will receive an allocation of RM6.9 billion for 2026, the highest ever from the Federal Government. The CM believes that the increase in allocation is a clear indication of Sabah’s political stability under GRS. The Federal Government’s confidence in the state’s leadership has been solid, Hajiji added.
Anwar has proposed several major allocations which directly or indirectly will benefit Sabah including RM765 million for the construction of the Southern Link electricity line; RM220 million for repairs of infrastructure damaged during the major floods and landslides in Sabah in November 2025; RM39 million for Phase 2 of the flood mitigation project; and RM1.67 billion for the Pan Borneo project in Sabah. Hajiji said that the PM has listened and responded to Sabah’s rights stated in the 1963 Malaysia Agreement and that he has repeatedly call for the increase in the interim special grant from RM300 million in 2024 to RM600 million in 2025.
