Sabah and Japan discussed bilateral issues and both sides agreed to continue the harmonious relationship, which is mutually beneficial, and to strengthen cooperation in investment, tourism, and economic development. Mr. Nakasuji Hisaki, the incoming Consul General of the Consular Office of Japan for Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan, and Mr. Yamashita Yoshito, the outgoing Consul General, visited Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor for a farewell cum courtesy call on 10 March 2026 at Menara Kinabalu.

Mr. Yamashita’s two-and-a-half-year tenure in Sabah ends in March 2026. Hajiji thanked Mr. Yamashita for his role in fostering friendship and cooperation between Sabah and Japan during his tenure and he said that he looks forward to Mr. Hisaki’s efforts along the same path.
