Sabah Builds Another Solar Project
Sabah is on track to adapt a diverse, sustainable and environmentally friendly energy system, away from conventional sources. The Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SERAMP 2040) has laid out plans for Sabah’s energy future in a holistic manner. The energy roadmap is in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 initiatives which aim, among others, to strengthen the green energy ecosystem in Sabah.
“Through efforts to expand the use of renewable energy such as solar and hydro, we are balancing the state’s energy mix and building strong resilience in facing global challenges and the climate crisis. The solar project adds 1 megawatt (MW) to the state’s energy system, and it represents part of our energy transition structure,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said at the launch ceremony of the Tuaran 15MW large-scale solar project on 12 March 2026 at the Rumpun Bajau Samah Cultural Centre in Kampung Lok Batik, Tuaran.

The project in Tuaran is Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC)’s second solar project, following the 5MW project in Labuan. The project in Tuaran will initially involve 150 workers. “This is a good platform for our local talents to gain industry experience and master the transfer of skills in renewable energy technology, Hajiji said. “When the project is fully operational, it is will create 50 additional job opportunities covering operations, maintenance, technical and administrative support.
The State Government remains steadfast in achieving development goals under the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 framework, and the energy sector stands as the most critical backbone in the journey.” The Chief Minister said the launching of the solar project is an investment to ensure that Sabah remains green and prosperous. The project also demonstrates the synergy between a government-linked company (GLC), such as SEC and the Government in shaping the state’s policy vision. Sabah must ensure that economic development moves in tandem with environmental conservation, Hajiji added. The launch ceremony of the solar project was followed by SEC’s Ramadan iftar event.
