Development Must be Intensified in Every District

Sabah’s east coast town of Semporna has gained much global attraction for its beautiful islands and scuba diving sites.

“Semporna has valuable natural assets, and we must ensure that the assets spur greater economic benefits,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said.

“The tourism sector must grow in tandem with the development of local businesses and create employment opportunities for youths in the community.” Every district has its own respective needs and strengths, and under the Sabah Maju Jaya blueprint for the 2026–2030 period, the government aims to boost Sabah’s competitiveness, productivity and economic value, Hajiji said. The CM was in Semporna for the launching ceremony of 106 Units of Two-Storey Shoplots under Phase 1 and the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Phase 2 and 3 of the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB) Commercial Project on 8th September 2026 at Jalan Bubul, Semporna. The project is strategically located along the main Balung–Semporna.

“I believe that this area can become one of the catalysts for economic growth in and around Semporna,” Hajiji said at the launching event. “It can become a new trading and business hub. The area can have an attractive and suitable jetty to enjoy views of the river and sea and watch the sunsets. We must make the best possible use of the beauty that Allah has bestowed upon Semporna.”

Hajiji added that Sabah’s development will be successful with joint efforts by the public and private sectors and that the State Government would continue to give attention to the development of every district.
