Quranic education is important in shaping knowledge, identity, character and faith. Islamic educational institutions, including religious schools, pondok schools and tahfiz centres are the backbone in a child’s spiritual growth. Tahfiz education has created a comprehensive and balanced approach, not only in Quranic memorisation and religious knowledge, but also in academic knowledge, technology, communication skills, leadership, entrepreneurship, and technical and vocational fields.

“We are educating a generation who are proficient in Quaran memorisation, excel in academics, and possess skills,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said at the official opening of the Maahad Tahfiz Sulaimaniyyah (MTS) Sabah and Sarawak Regional Office building on 4th October 2026 at Taman Sulaman, Kota Kinabalu.

“This building symbolises commitment, dedication and aspiration to develop a generation that memorises, understands and lives by the teachings of the Quran in their daily lives.” A generation educated through the Quran can become imams, preachers or educators, and can also become leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and members of society who make significant contributions to society, Hajiji said.

Tahfiz institutions must practice transparency and professionalism and they must comply with regulations and guidelines relating to building safety, fire prevention, health, cleanliness and the qualifications of teaching staff, Hajiji added.

he CM stressed that religious educational institutions must instil the values of moderation, compassion, tolerance and respect for the state’s multiracial and multireligious society. “Islam teaches its followers to bring mercy, preserve peace and build good relations among fellow human beings,” Hajiji said.

“These are the values that students must acquire so that they can become ambassadors of the faith through good character, knowledge and deeds. The schools must also engage in collaborative networks to broaden educational and career pathways which is in line with the State Government’s efforts to develop quality, principled and competitive human capital.”

Datuk Isnin Haji Aliasnih ,Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, delivered the CM’s speech.
