State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman who is also the Chairman of the State’s Disaster Committee said the decision is to protect students and teachers from the effect of the harmful haze.
"This is also in line with the Education Ministry's directive following the advice issued by the Yang di Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim," Zainudin said on 13the October 2026 in Kota Kinabalu.
The government has instructed that all schools in Tawau be closed beginning 14th October 2026 as a result of the worsening haze and weather conditions for the past few days.
