The construction of the RM150-million Nabawan District Police Headquarters (Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah or IPD) and Police Housing will begin in January 2027. Sabah has prioritised the project for 2027 because of security factors including the district’s location bordering Indonesia, which requires stronger security capabilities to address cross-border crimes and illegal activities.

“Nabawan needs a more structured policing system and law enforcement security capabilities that meets present-day security requirements,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nabawan District Police Headquarters and Police Housing project on 20th October 2026 at Nabawan.

“We need integrated, effective and sustained enforcement measures, including strengthening the PDRM’s capabilities in terms of personnel, infrastructure, operational facilities and administrative systems in order to reinforce our border security.”

The Nabawan Police Station, established in 1976, is presently under the administration of the Keningau District Police Headquarters, despite Nabawan covering an administrative area of 6,089 square kilometres.

“We must always feel safe, secured and protected,” Hajiji said. “We must also prioritise the welfare of law enforcement personnel Therefore, providing adequate working facilities and housing to them is essential.”
