Sabah Kinabalu Pink Ribbon (SKPR), an organisation established in Sabah in 2010 by a group of breast cancer survivors, has successfully used a RM300,000 funding from the state government to continuously raised breast cancer awareness, supported patients and survivors, and helped families and communities better understand the importance of standing alongside those affected.

Inspired with many successes, SKPR has set up The Pink Haven, a centre that supports breast cancer patients and caregivers during specialised treatment. SKPR’s Patron and Founder, Datin Lucilla Pang, a breast cancer survivor, was inspirational in the establishment of SKPR.

“For patients travelling from rural communities and other parts of Sabah to Kota Kinabalu for treatment, the journey can be physically exhausting, emotionally difficult and financially draining,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, said at the opening ceremony of The Pink Haven by SKPR event on 31st October 2026 at Kota Kinabalu.

“Patients and caregivers may have to spend time away from their homes and families while coping with the uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis. The new centre is a “home away from home” concept which eases the burden of travelling for those affected. The centre offers dignity, comfort and the reassurance that no one has to face this journey alone.”

The State Government recognises the value of initiatives such as The Pink Haven and the importance of working with healthcare institutions, community organisations, donors and volunteers to support people affected by cancer, Hajiji added.

Datuk Rina Jainal, Assistant Minister of Women, Health and Community Wellbeing, delivered the Chief Minister’s speech.
