A must-read book was launched on 30 July 2024, entitled "General Operations Force, Sabah Brigade: Eliminating Terrorists and The Fifth Column in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu." The thwarting of the terrorist intrusion in Kampung Tanduo reflected the bravery and courage of our security forces, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said during the launching of the book at Menara Kinabalu. The sacrifice of the security forces, and especially during the Tanduo incident was huge. They fought for the country's sovereignty and people's security, Hajiji said.

The terrorist attack in February 2013 by a group of bandits – reportedly acting on behalf of a so-called defunct Sulu Sultanate from another country is claiming Sabah as their territory, a claim which has never been recognised either by the Malaysian Government or the international community. "The Sulu Sultanate has ceased to exist for several decades, and it has never been recognised by any sovereign country or international organisation, “ Hajiji said.

The CM added - at the launching of the Op Daulat Tanduo book – that Sabah’s security concerns are top priority and especially that Sabah’s land boundaries and shorelines are long and surrounded by the South China Sea in the West, the Sulu Sea in the Northeast and the Celebes Sea in the East, while in the southern side, Sabah shares international border with Indonesia.

Two new General Operations Force (GOF) battalions will be added to the security team. They are Battalion 21, Keningau and Battalion 22, Kunak, adding them to the five battalions in Kinarut, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sandakan and Beluran. The additional GOF complexes will bolster defence against subversive movements and block smuggling activities of fuel, timber logs, and drugs.

Hajiji said that the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM); the Malaysian Armed Forces; the Marine Police and the GOF have successfully contained terrorist intrusions; and have contained illegal activities at Sabah’s boundaries.
