A New Medical Wellness Facility for Sabah

A branch of the European Wellness Premier Centre of Excellence opens on 22 August 2024 at Alam Mesra, Kota Kinabalu.The niche stem cell wellness centre will boost Sabah’s tourism medical sector as researchers and customers from all over the world will visit Sabah.

The centre is operated and managed by renowned stem cell scientist Dato’ Sri Dr Mike Chan and his wife, and co-founder of the business, Dato’ Sri Dr Michelle Wong, who is a local from Penampang. During the visit to the opening of the centre on 22 August 2024, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said that medical wellness is a dynamic sector offering good returns and that the new facility offers more than conventional healthcare, combining the latest in medical science.

Hajiji remarked that Sabahans also has brilliance which extends beyond Sabah’s natural beauty to the frontiers of science and that the locals can be innovative and successful in health care : our homegrown talents are succesful in stem cell research and regenerative medicine and they have become celebrated figures in the global scientific community. Dato’ Sri Mike and Dato’ Sri Michelle have, for some time, planning to take their multi-million business to Sabah.

Hajiji said that their investment in Sabah will undoubtedly transform lives. "Sabah is strategically located in Southeast Asia, forming the core of BIMP-EAGA and the ASEAN region and it is evolving into a regional link for many investment prospects, including medical wellness tourism," Hajiji said. “Health and wellness have become global priorities, and Sabah is positioning itself as an alternative destination for medical wellness.” The impact of more business investments includes jobs creation and the attraction of skilled professionals, the CM said.
