Empowering the Youths
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) hosted a Sabah Moto Day 7.0 on 15 September 2024 at its campus grounds, Kota Kinabalu. The annual event is Sabah’s largest two-wheel motorsport programme, with 50,000 attendances including from Brunei and Malaya. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, who officiated the event, said that the government emphasises youth development, and - in line with the Sabah Youth Policy – it has allocated RM16.9 million to implement the Sabah Youth Leadership Development Programme (SYABAS). Programmes like SYABAS will strengthen ties and will promote motorcycling safety, Hajiji said.
Organisers of the two-day Sabah Moto Day has prepared various programmes to coincide with the Malaysia Day celebration including activities at the Tuaran Orphanage; and activities with anti-drugs themes, aided by the Sabah Anti Narcotic Squad.
"This programme will foster unity among the youths in the two-wheel motorsport, the CM said. “It will instill noble values in line with the event's objective to inspire youths to do charity work.” The government may include the Sabah Moto Day in the state's tourism calendar.
