The Warisan Sabah Government Caused RM315 million Losses in the Water Issue
It is sad and pathetic that Parti Warisan Sabah told lies about the water issue in Sabah. When it helmed the government, it immediately terminated the concessions and contracts of nine existing companies to manage water treatment plants. The PWS government quickly appointed its own crony - a sole company which has no track record and experience - to take over the job of the nine companies. The water supply in Sabah deteriorated and thousands of people and businesses suffered. The present state government was forced to pay a total of RM315 million compensation to the nine companies.
The water supply in Sabah deteriorated and thousands of people and businesses suffered. The present state government was forced to pay a total of RM315 million compensation to the nine companies. In a shocking move, the PWS began spreading lies by putting the blame on the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) - Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus State Government on the worsening water crisis. The saga began in December 2018 when the PWS government terminated the contracts of the nine companies to manage 58 water treatment plants in Sabah. These companies were awarded 20-year concessions in 2013.
The Hajiji-led government paid between RM22 million and RM54 million in compensation to the contractors. When PWS lost power in the state elections, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor became the Chief Minister in September 2020, and he immediately faced pressures to terminate the contractor which PWS has appointed. However, Hajiji resisted the pressures because he believed that taxpayers would face another huge, potential legal and financial burden. Hajiji believed that Sabahans have suffered enough financially over the water issue. He also believed in fairness and justice. Hajiji did not do what PWS has negatively done, and instead, he let the company complete its contract.
