Sabah’s Economy Grew to RM83 Billion
Despite global and regional economic uncertainties and challenges, Sabah's economy grew encouragingly, with its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increasing from RM82.1 billion in 2023 to RM83.2 billion in 2024. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor cited the success of the State Strategic Development Hala Tuju as one of the key factors of the economic growth.
The CM said that various initiatives will continue to be rolled out which will encompass the Blue Economy initiative. “We will ensure that the momentum of continuous improvement and positive development is on track," Hajiji said. “Sabah’s economic growth is in line with the national GDP, which is expected to increase by 2.5 per cent through the Madani Economy Framework which underwent restructuring of Malaysia's economy under the National 2025 Budget.”

At a State Development Action Council (Majlis Tindakan Pembangunan Negeri or MTNg) meeting on 29 April 2025, at Menara Kinabalu, chaired by the Chief Minister, he said that all state leadership, heads of department and heads at district-level must monitor ongoing programme and ensure that by 2025, all the 1,265 federal-funded projects and programmes must be completed.
Sabah’s allocation for the development programmes was RM6.7 billion for 2025. "We must do a paradigm shift to ensure the success of all our plans. We must do away with outdated processes, and we must change our attitude and mindset," Hajiji said.
