New Player in Oil and Gas Industry

A new service provider has entered Sabah’s growing and thriving oil and gas industry. Halliburton and the DPI Group are global companies which provide services to the energy sector worldwide. The two international oil and gas services companies have teamed up with a local company - Jalinan Enigma Sdn Bhd - to provide services and solutions for the oil and gas sector in Sabah including intervention, and sand and water management to increase well production.

Martin White, Senior Vice President of Halliburton Asia Pacific, led a delegation from the three companies, for a visit to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor on 20 May 2025 at Menara Kinabalu. The delegation includes KY Doucet, Managing Director of the DPI Group, and Yong Khen San, Chairman of Jalinan Enigma Sdn Bhd.

On 19 May 2025, a delegation from one of the world’s biggest energy groups ConocoPhillips – visited Chief Minister Datuk Seri Haji Hajiji Haji Noor. The visit was led by Connor Dunn, President of ConocoPhillips Malaysia. The multinational company's oil and gas development plan in the country including Sabah has been growing for several years. The industry – and other related spin offs, direct and indirect – is expected to grow significantly in the years to come.

ConocoPhillips has a long presence in Malaysia and especially in oil and energy producing regions including Sabah. Through its subsidiary - ConocoPhillips Sabah Gas Ltd – the group is the sole operator at the Kebabangan Cluster Production Sharing Contract (KBBC PSC), northwest off Sabah waters. ConocoPhillips also has a 29.5% stakehold at the Gumusut oil field, Sabah, where oil was discovered in July 2022.

The new service provider group – Halliburton/ the DPI Group/ Jalinan Enigma Sdn Bhd – is expected to significantly boost the needs and requirements of the oil companies in Sabah.
