Additional of 800 Hotel Rooms
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said that Sabah’s property industry is robust and growing. Another indication was the initiative of an integrated mixed-development on a 14.89-acre site by property developer Trillium Development Sdn Bhd. Launching “The Peninsula Kota Kinabalu” project at the central business district (CBD) on 8 February 2024, Hajiji said KK City will have an additional 800 rooms to cater for the state’s fast-recovering tourism sector when The Peninsula Kota Kinabalu is completed by 2028.
Hajiji is confident that the latest property development and other mixed-development projects along the waterfront stretch will give investors the confidence to invest in property development in Sabah. Trillium Development Sdn Bhd’s project consists of service apartment blocks, premium residential towers, office blocks, shopping malls, a multi-storey car park, commercial suites, a 4-star hotel Grandis @The Peninsula, and a 5-star hotel.
Hajiji said The Peninsula KK development augures well for the growing trend of the state's tourism industry, which recorded 2.6 million arrivals in 2023 compared to 1.7 million in 2022. With ongoing development of other new hotels in various stages of completion, Sabah will have at least 3,000 additional rooms. New developments include the Club Med in Kuala Penyu, Alila Resort in Tuaran, Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts, Papar, and Avani Hotel, Crowne Plaza, Fairfield by Marriot and the Sheraton Hotel all four hotels in Kota Kinabalu. Presently, Sabah has a total of 26,822 hotel rooms available.
