Hajiji Demonstrates Humility, Care During Floods

Remember, Our CM‘s Effort

Many political leaders stay in comfort zone when disasters struck, such as in major flooding and landslides, which are prone in Sabah during the Monsoon season. The storms and the heavy rains bought with them havoc to life and properties. They damaged powerlines, roads, bridges and other infrastructures. Many politicians stay quiet. But not our Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.

Upon returning to Kota Kinabalu from an important MA63 meeting with the Prime Minister Datuk Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching, Sarawak, on 12 September 2025, Hajiji went straightaway to places which were impacted by floods and landslides. The wet and stormy weather in Sabah over the past weeks in September 2025 have taken lives and have broken power towers, roads, bridges and homes. The following day, on 13 September 2025, a major landslide in Penampang brought down a high-tension electrical tower at Kampung Sarapung, Penampang, cutting power supply to the east coast of Sabah.

Hajiji immediately convened an emergency meeting on 14 September 2025 with Sabah Electricity (SE) to monitor the restoration works. Hajiji has constantly and steadfastly defines humility and character in his leadership. Recall what Hajiji did during the floods and landslides in 2022 during which he has responded efficiently and quickly. “The people's safety is our utmost priority and concern,” Hajiji has said during the natural disaster in 2022.

“Security and rescue personnel forces are on the way to the affected areas; Emergency food aids are sent to flood victims. The State Disaster Management Committee has activated 14 temporary evacuation centres in the five affected districts. In these challenging times, we stand with our people, and we focus on their well-being, welfare, safety and security. We have directed our assets and resources to those who are affected,” Hajiji said on 15 September 2025, echoing his sentiments and care in the 2022 flooding crisis. "Our immediate priority is to manage the crisis, to coordinate recovery efforts and to ensure timely rescue operations for affected communities.” , said Chief Minister Hajiji.

On 03 Jan 2022, at the federal level Northeast Monsoon Flood Disaster Management Task Force special meeting, Hajiji asked for – and received - RM874,000 in financial assistance for affected family. Then in 2025, when disaster revisited, Hajiji was at the forefront again. And then on 15 September 2025, Hajiji convened his team, and they wisely cancelled the state-level Malaysia Day celebrations slated on the following day, 16 September 2025, in view of the serious disaster crisis which have affected many districts in Sabah.
