TotalEnergies, a French multi-energy company, is one of the top five global players in the production of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and upstream activities. TotalEnergies is presently operating in ultra-deepwater exploration off Sabah waters, with a 34.9 per cent participating interest, together with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Shell.

The Group is also involved in five other blocks off Sabah waters and participates in key offshore gas assets in Sarawak. The Group’s Malaysia’s Managing Director, Jerome Saniez, visited Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor on 14 April 2026 at Menara Kinabalu. “Sabah seeks reputable strategic partners and investors in deepwater exploration,” Hajiji said.

“We have significant untapped deepwater exploration potential, and we welcome international partners to unlock these resources. We welcome TotalEnergies to establish a long-term presence in the state and help us to strengthen the state's position in the regional energy sector.”

Saniez told Hajiji that TotalEnergies is confident that Sabah is a strong next step for the company, given the significant offshore potential, growing gas demand, investor-friendly policies, and strong support at both State and Federal levels.
