Agong Grants RM500,000 to Fire Victims in Kudat and Sandakan
Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar contributed RM500,000 to the victims of the fire disasters which struck their homes in Kudat and Sandakan in April 2026. The fire destroyed eight houses in the Kudat tragedy on 16 April 2026 and affected 67 victims. On 18 April 2026, fire razed 1,050 houses in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, and affected 914 heads of household. Tan Sri Dato' Avinderjit Sing, the Managing Trustee of the Sultan Ibrahim Johor Foundation, presented the RM500,000 contribution to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, on 24 June 2026 at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.
“This reflects His Majesty’s concern for the people of Sabah who were affected by the disasters. The State Government greatly appreciates His Majesty’s contribution and support.” Hajiji said.
The Sabah State Government, through the State Disaster Management Committee (Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Bencana Negeri or JPBN), will continue to strengthen the coordination of welfare assistance, management of temporary evacuation centres and ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of the victims are safeguarded, Hajiji added.
