SMJE Pays RM89 million to State Government
Since 2023, State-owned SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd (SMJE) has paid RM210 million cumulatively in dividends to the State Government. The dividends were paid from distributable reserves. SMJE has performed financially well, backed by a solid balance sheet, a stronger cash position, and continued disciplined financial management across the Group.
As of 31 December 2025, SMJE Group's total assets stood at RM4.82 billion, and it recorded a Profit After Tax of RM58.7 million despite ongoing economic, social, and geopolitical volatilities. Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi Manjun, Chairman of SMJ Energy, said the company's performance demonstrates the value of managing Sabah's strategic assets with discipline, professionalism and a long-term perspective.
“Our responsibility is to manage the State's strategic investments prudently, so that they continue delivering sustainable returns and lasting benefits for Sabah, for today and for future generations," Masidi, who is also Deputy Chief Minister II/Finance Minister, said Datuk Dr Dionysia Kibat, Chief Executive Officer of SMJE Group, presented replica cheques for RM50 million dividend and RM37.96 million in State Sales Tax (SST) for the financial year ended 2025.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor witnessed the presentation on 21 July 2026 at the State Legislative Assembly Building, Kota Kinabalu. Hajiji said that the dividend payment and SST reflect SMJE’s sustainable financial performance and demonstrated the company’s success in fulfilling the State Government’s mandate to increase Sabah’s participation in the oil and gas sector.
SMJE also contributed RM1 million to the Sabah State Government Scholarship Fund and RM500,000 to Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah (YKS) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The CSR contributions underscored SMJE’s commitment to human capital development and social welfare initiatives, Hajiji said.
