Fire Killed Three Children; Destroyed 202 Houses

A fire at Kampung Numbak, Kota Kinabalu, on 30 August 2026 claimed the lives of three children. They were locals, identified as Mohd Asrul Abdullah, 6 years old; Nana Abdullah, 4 years; and Nur Farah Bilah Mohd Tajah, 8 years.

Some of the occupants of the squatter settlement were not residents. A total of 202 stilt houses were destroyed by the fire and 134 residents from 40 households were housed at two Temporary Evacuation Centres at Dewan Serbaguna Likas and Dewan Damai.

The fire impacted a squatter settlement of houses built over water covering Kampung Lok Buta, Kampung Lok Poring and Kampung Sabang Lama.
