KK Central Market Will be Relocated

The government will relocate KK Central Market out of the city centre. The Kota Kinabalu City Hall will present a working paper that will be discussed at the Cabinet level. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor visited the two proposed sites for the new market in Alam Mesra and Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens coastal road on 14 September 2026.

The site at Jalan UMS in Alam Mesra is a 40-acre state land. The other proposed site is located on a mixed-commercial land belonging to the Local Government and Housing Ministry near Kampung Likas along Tun Fuad Stephens coastal road adjacent to Anjung Selera.

“A new Kota Kinabalu Integrated Market Hub will bigger and better and it will have all the amenities,” Hajiji said. “After the market is relocated, the City Mayor office will submit recommendation for development on the existing site of the Central Market.” The proposed new market hub will have – among others - a dry market, wet market, a cultural, local and tourism products centre, hawkers centre and fish wharf.

Mayor Datuk Sabin Samitah briefed the CM during the site visits. Also present were State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman, Assistant Ministers to the Chief Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.
