Sabah Aims to Produce Technology Creators

Sabah must develop a generation of youths who can master technology, produce solutions, and develop innovations. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said youths must grasp Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to move forward.
“Artificial intelligence (AI), automation, digital technology, biotechnology, space technology and renewable energy are reshaping the way people learn, work and conduct business.” Sabah can produce technological creators to assist in advancement in agriculture, food security, biodiversity, green energy, water resource management, healthcare, marine technology, science-based tourism and the digital economy, Hajiji added.
Hajiji said that the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) talent is a crucial long-term investment, including developments in AI technology.
“We must transform from being ‘technology users’ to be ‘technology creators’,” Hajiji said at the Integrated STI Cultivation Programme on 23 September 2026 at the Second Central Lecture Hall Complex, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Kota Kinabalu.
Cooperation between the State and Federal governments, particularly through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Sabah Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (KPSTI) and UMS, must be strengthened to ensure that the STI cultivation agenda is implemented continuously and comprehensively, the CM added.
Hajiji said that more programmes must be delivered to schools and communities, including in rural and interior areas, and that innovations must be commercialised and utilised across various sectors.
The carnival should be a catalyst for greater collaboration among schools, universities, government agencies, researchers, industries and communities through projects, training, competitions, mentoring, joint research and knowledge transfer, Hajiji added.
Datuk Rina Jainal, Assistant Minister of Women, Health and People’s Well-being, delivered the CM’s speech.
