CM Announces sea link; Sembulan land scheme; Sabah hosting Malaysia Day

Kudat is Sabah’s most northern town and it has the most ideal location to formally establish economic ties with Palawan, the closest town at the southern part of the Philippines.

The State Government has proposed to the Federal Government to establish sea linkage between Kudat and Palawan, Philippines to boost Kudat's economy.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said the matter was discussed with Anthony Loke, Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, who visited Kudat on 29 May 2024.

With ferry services, barter trading at Kudat will flourish, the CM said, at the Chief Minister's Department post-cabinet meeting on 29 May 2024 at Menara Kinabalu. Kudat port is expected to serve as a berthing point for ships sailing from southern Mindanao to Labuan. Kudat Port has the facilities, and especially the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security logistics.

Hajiji also announced a few other matters including the following:

  • the State Cabinet has approved Kota Kinabalu City Hall’s revised Sembulan Urban Renewal Scheme which allow land owners to stay there as soon as the development is completed, with specific conditions including monetary compensation
  • Sabah will host Malaysia Day 2024 celebrations on 16 September 2024. Datuk Christina Liew, state Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister will co-chair the organising committee with Fahmi Fadzil, the Federal Minister of Communications
