Hajiji as always, wise, collected and calm
4 October 2021
On 04 October 2021, Sabah Umno chief, Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin, said that UMNO is ready to face Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the next 15th General Election. Bung, who is also a Deputy Chief Minister, also said that Sabah UMNO was ready to face any other party in GRS in the next GE and that UMNO would contest in all the seats that they have won in the 14th GE but whose winners switched sides to Bersatu. Sabahans were shocked that Bung issued the challenge when his party UMNO is a part of the GRS coalition State Government. GRS comprises Perikatan Nasional (Bersatu, STAR, SAPP, PAS and Gerakan) Barisan Nasional (Umno, MCA, MIC, PBRS) and Parti Bersatu Sabah.
- Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, Sabah’s chief) kept cool and said that Bung was responding to PPBM President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s remarks pertaining to UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s suggestion that UMNO would defend all the parliamentary and state seats which UMNO won in the last general election.
- Hajiji is doing the best he can in keeping Sabahans united. He said that the political landscape in Sabah is unique. The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) parties are united and have collectively agreed to complete the five-year term mandate.
- “For us here in Sabah, we will discuss with all component parties in GRS wisely and arrive at the best possible solution in facing the next general elections,” Hajiji said. “From the beginning we have said we will work together and cooperate as well as to honour the mandate given to us by the people to rule.’’ Hajiji calls for unity to focus on development priorities; fight the COVID-19 pandemic; pursue economic recovery. Put politicking aside for now, he urged.
