SOGDC and EA Gibson Sign MoUs
State-owned Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (SOGDC) brought along its strategic partners to visit Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor at his office at Menara Kinabalu on 13 April 2026. Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya, Chairman of SOGDC; and Mohd Azmir Ramli, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of SOGDC, led the delegation of SOGDC’s international partners which includes:
- Anton Perdises Aboitiz, Chief Operating Officer of Anton Perdises;
- Matthew Chandapillai, Country Chief Executive Officer of ACWA;
- Miran Sepich, Executive Director of Green Parrot (Abu Dhabi);
- Mathew Lee, Executive Director of WEC;
- Owen Bolton, Director of EA Gibson; and
- Tonci Tokic, Project Director of EA Gibson Gas Department
The visit was held in conjunction with a proposed collaborative project between SOGDC and EA Gibson to build a regional energy hub. Hajiji witnessed the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development the energy hub at the Sipitang Oil & Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP. Hajiji and Shahelmey also witnessed the exchange of several commercial MoUs between SOGDC and ACWA Power, Aboitiz Power Ltd and WEC.
The development includes the construction of an integrated energy storage and distribution hub covering 275 acres, featuring facilities for liquefied natural gas (LNG), ammonia and hydrogen storage, and petrochemical infrastructure and power generation development. SODGC and ACWA Power will conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant with a capacity of between 400 megawatts and 500 megawatts.
Aboitiz Power Ltd is exploring the development of a power transmission grid system, and WEC may construct a jetty and storage tanks. Saudi Aramco has also expressed interest in participating in the project as a main LNG supplier for the energy hub. “The State Government welcomes the development of an energy hub, Hajiji said. “SOGDC’s initiatives will increase the state’s energy infrastructure capacity, attract high-value investments and support long-term industrial growth, particularly in the SOGIP area.”
