Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor continued his working visits to state ministries, and the CM visited the Local Government and Housing Ministry (MLGH) on 5 August 2024 at Wisma Innoprise, Kota Kinabalu. The discussion at the ministry included the following:

  • Abuses at the People's Housing Project - the government has detected unscrupulous acts because successful applicants of the programme have rented the houses to make commercial gains, a clear violation of the agreement and a clear indication that they do not need the houses. The abuses must be rectified, and future vetting process / due diligence must stop these abuses to ensure genuine applicants get their houses in view that the State Government has applied for 5,000 PPR houses for Sabah for 2025. The cleanliness issue at the housing projects must be solved because the present situation of lack of cleanliness mindset has caused major health issues.
  • The local government enforcement units must effectively and quickly demolish illegally built residential structures / squatter colonies on state lands. At present, Sabah has 281 squatter colonies. Kota Kinabalu has the most, followed by Sandakan and Tawau. Three districts have zero illegal squatter colonies, namely, Kota Belud, Tuaran, and Ranau. colonies.
  • All 25 PBTs, departments, and agencies under the ministry must be more proactive to conduct frequent inspections of public amenities including drainages and streetlights.
