Sabah will have a new Deputy Chief Minister from the Chinese community if Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) wins re-election by the end of 2025. “I will appoint a Chinese leader as our Deputy Chief Minister,” Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said at the Get-Together Night with the Chinese community, mission and Chinese independent schools and non-Muslim religious bodies on 22 September 2025 at the Hakka Hall, Kota Kinabalu.

“The role and contribution of the Chinese community is significant in Sabah’s development. In the private sector, the Chinese entrepreneurs and traders are at the top. Without their contributions, the state’s economy would not have grown significantly. We acknowledge and appreciate the role and contributions of the Chinese community in public service, Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) and in our society. We have many experienced Chinese in the fields of oil and gas, finance, investment, and law,” said Chief Minister Hajiji.

Most recently, Hajiji said that he has appointed the Honourable Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah, former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, to lead the Sabah Law Reform Advisory Council (SLRAC) – an independent body established to strengthen the state’s legal system.
