Federal Government Action Plans on Fuel Supply, Digital Network
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, met with two representatives from the Federal Government, at Menara Kinabalu on 24 March 2026. Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup or KPDN), briefed Hajiji on fuel supplies in Sabah amid concerns on potential stock-outs that could affect consumers and the continuity of the state’s economic sectors. Iran – in the ongoing hostile conflict with the United States of America and with Israel – has closed the Straits of Hormuz, a vital sea lane in the Middle East, an action which has significantly impacted global economy.
Armizan assured that the Federal Government, through KPDN, has taken proactive measures to ensure that fuel supplies in Sabah remain sufficient and stable. Armizan said that the ministry is closely monitoring and coordination with relevant agencies to prevent supply disruptions, and especially in rural areas and critical sectors. Hajiji emphasised the importance of a consistent fuel supply to support the state’s economic activities, including the logistics, fisheries and agriculture sectors which rely heavily on diesel.
In a separate meeting, Tan Sri Mohd Salim Fateh Din, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), briefed Hajiji on the progress of the National Digital Network Plan (Jalinan Digital Negara or JENDELA) implementation in Sabah and the Kota Kinabalu City Hall Smart City (DBKK Smart City) initiative. JENDELA is the government’s initiative to enhance nationwide broadband access and quality, setting the stage for 5G adoption.
