Hajiji Visits Flood-hit Penampang
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has instructed all local authorities throughout the state to be on high alert and to be prepared for any emergencies during the rainy season. Hajiji – who visited flood victims on 1 July 2024 - said that many areas in Penampang were severely impacted by the floods and that people whose homes were severely affected were temporary sheltered at the Penampang Cultural Centre.
The Chief Minister said that the government will give an emergency cash assistance of RM1,000 to each family including those who were not evacuated to the temporary shelter but whose houses were badly damaged by the floods. District Officer Francis Chong said that 165 people from 67 families are placed at the shelter.
Eleven villages in Penampang district were submerged under water due to the heavy and continuous downpour this week. A young woman was swept by strong currents near the roundabout in Donggongon during the flash flood and she did not survive the ordeal.
